Annensky Kirmash

Date: 26.08.2014

Venue: Grodno region

Category: Culture

This trade and recreational event has roots stretching back to the early18th century. The geographical position of Zelva was favorable – the city was located on the important trade route from Minsk to Slonim, Grodno and Belostok. The fair, which in due time was considered to be second-largest in the Old World after Leipzig, was visited by five thousand merchants, and not only from Belarus and Lithuania, but almost from every country of Europe. A variety of goods were presented at the fair: iron, glass, wine, furs, groceries, oil, tobacco, tea, fabrics.

The present fair will be hospitable, and an exhibition and sales of loaves bear witness of this. Everyone will be able to visit a fair of crafts "City of Masters" in the central square. One can see not only a process of creating products but also taste them, after all weaving and pottery lessons will be organized. The main feature of the Annensky Kirmash was a horse market. Horses will be the focus of attention and at the forthcoming fair. Anyone who feels like it can have a ride on a cart or a trap at the Kolos Stadium which will be the venue for horse shows.
