On official visit of Vladimir Makei to Slovenia

On 24th of July 2017, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus H.E. Mr.Vladimir Makei pays an official visit to Slovenia dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between independent Belarus and Slovenia.

Vladimir Makei had meetings with Borut Pahor, the President of Slovenia, Karl Erjavec, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, and Zoran Janković, the Mayor of Ljubljana.

During the meeting with his colleague Mr.Karl Erjavec Vladimir Makei has discussed actual status and perspectives of the development of Belarusian-Slovenian relations, interaction of Belarus and Slovenia in the framework of international organizations, Belarus-EU dialogue and cooperation of two countries during Belarus’ presidency in CEI. Main focus of the meeting was on bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation issues.

The sides marked out following priority areas of strengthening Belarus-Slovenia relations: innovations and telecommunication, construction and energy, agriculture and food processing, mechanical engineering, pharmaceutics. Cooperation in industry sector, bilateral investment and financial interaction were also discussed.

At the end of talks ministers signed the Programme of cooperation between ministries of foreign affairs for 2017-2018. This Programme is a road map to enhance interaction between foreign ministries which envisage a set of concrete bilateral measures and events for the nearest future.

Belarusian and Slovenian Ministers also exchanged greeting letters on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. In his message Vladimir Makei highlighted that the range of mutually beneficial interests and dialogue between our countries are widening every year.

The same day Vladimir Makei met with Borut Pahor, the President of Slovenia.

During the meeting the sides discussed the development of economic, humanitarian and cultural relations. It was underlined that historical links, traditionally warm relations of our peoples are creating a solid background for the development of long-term mutually beneficial relations.

During the meeting with Zoran Janković, the Mayor of Ljubljana city, Minister Makei discussed perspectives of the establishment of a direct cooperation between two capitals. Focus was made not only on the development of trade and economic links and exchange of best practices and know-how in municipal economy, but also on a cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Vladimir Makei expressed gratitude to the Ljubljana Library for placing in temporary disposal the original of Francysk Skaryna’s “Little travel’ book”, which will be exhibited in the National Library of Belarus. High potential for cooperation between universities of two capitals was also noted.

In the evening Minister met with representatives of the Slovenian business, who is interested to intensify the cooperation with Belarus. During the meeting perspectives of economic projects, possible establishment of joint ventures and third countries market joint entries were discussed.
