Bilateral relations

 

 

 

The Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Croatia established diplomatic relations on the 25 September 1992.

Since April 2009 the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Russian Federation has been accredited to the Republic of Belarus. The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Hungary has been accredited to the Republic of Croatia since April 2019.

In March 2011 the office of the Honorary Consul of Croatia in Belarus has been opened in Minsk.

In November 2016 the President of Croatian Chamber of Economy — County Chamber Rijeka Prof. Vidoje Vujić has been appointed to the Honorary Consul of Belarus in the Primorje — Gorski kotar County of Croatia. The office of the Honorary Consul of Belarus has been opened in Rijeka in May 2017.

In recent years the political dialogue between Belarus and Croatia has been conducted in the form of bilateral consultations between the foreign services as well as bilateral meetings in the framework of diverse international events.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus met with the Prime Minister of Croatia in November 1998 in the framework of the Summit of the Heads of Governments of the countries – members of the Central European Initiative (CEI). June 2000 saw the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Croatia which took place in the framework of the CEI ministerial conference.

The bilateral political consultations between the foreign services of Belarus and Croatia have been held in 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2017.

In September 2016 the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Croatia took place in the framework of the of the 71th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New-York.

In April 2017 the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Croatia took place in the framework of the meeting of the Visegrad Group and the Eastern Partnership in Warsaw.

A legal framework of the bilateral relations of Belarus and Croatia is being developed. A number of bilateral agreements have been signed: on establishing of diplomatic relations (1992), on facilitating of implementation and mutual protection of investments (2001), on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion (2003), on international road service (2005), on tourism cooperation (2010), on economic cooperation (2015).

Belarus is interested in further expanding a constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation with Croatia in all fields, including trade and investment, science, education, culture, tourism, etc.
