Political and Cultural Dialogue

Diplomatic relations between Republic of Belarus and Republic of Slovenia were established on 23rd of July 1992.

The Embassy of Belarus in Hungary is accredited to Slovenia from Hungary. Ambassador of Belarus to Slovenia Mr.Aliaksandr Khainouski presented credentials to the President of Slovenia on February 15, 2013.

The Embassy of Slovenia in Russian Federation is also accredited to Belarus. Ambassador of Slovenia to Belarus Mr. Primož Šeligo presented credentials on December 16, 2013.

Accreditation of the Embassy of Belarus to Slovenia (with residence in Budapest) in December 2008 and follow up activities with aim to promote political and economic dialogue have intensified Belarusian-Slovenian relations.

In June 2009 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Samuel Žbogar paid a working visit to Minsk. He was accompanied by Slovenian business delegation. In April 2010 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Mr.Sergei Martynov paid a reciprocal visit to Slovenia.

Since 2009 regular political and interministerial consultations on a level of deputy ministers were renewed. In 2014-2016 agenda of these consultations was significantly extended (consular consultations, consultations between analysis and multilateral departments took place).

On March 25, 2016 Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Mr.Karl Erjavec paid an official visit to Minsk. During his visit he met with the President, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

On July 24, 2017 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Mr. Vladimir Makei paid an official return visit to Slovenia. Within the framework of the visit he hold meetings with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, the Mayor of Ljubljana, the management of the Slovenian company Iskratel.

An interparliamentary cooperation between two countries has been developing fast in recent years. The group of friendship with Belarus was created in Parliament of Slovenia in December 2015. The friendship group with Slovenia also exists in the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.

In December 2015 Mr. Sergei Badulja was appointed as Honorary Consul of Slovenia in Belarus. Since the autumn of 2016 Mr. Janez Škrabec performs his duties as Honorary Consul of Belarus in Slovenia.

Belarusian-Slovenian contacts in the humanitarian sphere are actively developing.

From 2011 to 2015 Belarusian state ensemble of dance “Khoroshki”, Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus and other groups took part in the prestigious Ljubljana festival.

In June 2017 as a result of cooperation between the national libraries of Belarus and Slovenia, the National and University Library of Slovenia presented the original of F. Skorina's Minor Roadway Book for the temporary display in Belarus (it was exhibited in Minsk until December 2017).

Since 2012 groups of Belarusian children from the contaminated areas of the Mogilev region have been annually improving their health in Slovenia in accordance with the Intergovernmental Agreement on the conditions for the rehabilitation of Belarusian underage citizens in the Republic of Slovenia.

Contacts between the educational institutions of the two countries are strengthening. In September 2015 students of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana visited Minsk. In November 2015 the Agreement on cooperation between the Institute of Business and Technology Management of the Belarusian State University and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana was signed.
