On the presentation of „The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna” to the National Széchényi Library

On 21 February 2018, on the International Mother Language Day, the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in cooperation with the National Széchényi Library organized the conference on the history of bookprinting. Representatives of the Library and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Belarusian citizens, Hungarian students who study the Belarusian language took part in the conference.

Ambassador Aliaksandr Khainouski presented to Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of the Library, the second part of „The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna” prepared by the National Library of Belarus. The first part of the edition was presented to the National Széchényi Library in December 2016.

In his speech Ambassador Aliaksandr Khainouski told about the history of Belarusian bookprinting, life of the first Belarusian book printer Francysk Skaryna, emphasized the existing positive relations between the Belarusian and Hungarian National Libraries and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.

During the conference Mr. Dávid Karácsonyi, research fellow of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, presented „Belarus in maps”, Mr. Gábor Farkas, Head of the repository of ancient books, made a presentation on the first Hungarian book printer Hess András and also shared his theory regarding the date of the birth of Francysk Skaryna (8 May 1491).

 

Ambassador Aliaksandr Khainouski held a short working meeting with the Director-General Dr. László Tüske, who told about the plans to modernize the Library and expressed his interest in sharing experience with the National Library of Belarus in this sphere.
