Political and Cultural Dialogue

The Republic of Belarus and Hungary established diplomatic relations on February 12, 1992.

The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus started its work in Budapest in January 2000. The Embassy of Hungary in Minsk was opened in December 2007.

During last years the cooperation with Hungary is quite intensive.

In April 2015 the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Mr. Péter Szijjártó paid a visit to Minsk where he had meetings with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

In March 2016 Mr.Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, paid a reciprocal visit to Hungary. During his visit Mr.Vladimir Makei met with Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Head of the National Assembly and his counterpart Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

On November 27, 2017 Mr. Andrei Kobyakov, Prime-Minister of the Republic of Belarus, met with Mr. Viktor Orbán, Prime-Minister of Hungary.

Deputy ministers of foreign affairs of both countries maintain permanent contacts, regular multilevel interministerial consultations take place between MFA of Belarus and MFA of Hungary.

Both parliaments maintain working contacts, first of all via bilateral friendship groups. In the National Assembly of Hungary (last convocation) the Friendship group with Belarus is headed by Mr. Sándor Lezsák, vice-speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly.
On April 28-29, 2016 Mr. Zsolt Németh, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of Hungary, paid a visit to Minsk.

Belarus and Hungary signed 17 international agreements. A visa free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports exists between countries.

Humanitarian and cultural cooperation between countries is extending: Days of culture of Belarus in Hungary took place in 2010 and 2017 and Days of culture of Hungary in Belarus – in 2014. Exchange of exhibitions and concerts happens on a regular base.

Since 2014 Hungarian has been taught in Minsk State Linguistic University. Hungarian students could learn the Belarusian language in the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest since 1994.

Since September 2015 in a framework of realization of provisions of bilateral Intergovernmental Educational Cooperation Programme Belarusian students study in universities of Hungary.

Since 2015 Belarusian students also participate in the work of the annual summer translation camp at the Lakitelek People’s School (under the patronage of Mr. Sándor Lezsák, vice-speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly).
