On Participation in the Opening of a War Memorial in Szeged
24.04.2025On April 23, 2025, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Hungary Uladzimir Ulakhovich took part in the solemn opening of the war memorial at the Dugonich municipal cemetery in Szeged after a large-scale restoration. The burial ground consists of 191 grave markers and 35 mass graves, where the remains of 1084 soldiers and officers of the Red Army are buried.
Representatives of the Embassies of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia and Venezuela, as well as Hungarian public organizations laid wreaths at the central obelisk, honouring the memory of the Soviet soldiers, who liberated the Hungarian territories on the left bank of the Tisza from the Nazis in October 1944 as part of the Debrecen Offensive Operation.
The church service for the deceased was performed by Archpriest John Kadar of the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Budapest.
The opening ceremony of the Soviet war burial site in Szeged, which is the largest soviet grave in eastern Hungary, marked an important milestone in the series of memorial events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
