Bilateral relations
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) were established on November 22, 1993.
Since March 2014 the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Hungary is accredited to Bosnia and Herzegovina. BiH in Belarus is represented by the Embassy of BiH in Russian Federation.
In June 2019 Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik paid his first visit to the Republic of Belarus to participate in the opening ceremony of the II European Games. M.Dodik met with President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko and Prime Minister Sergei Rumas. On 19 September 2019 the delegation from the Republika Srpska of BiH, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, visited Minsk.
Regular working contacts were maintained between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH. There are regular consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries on topical issues on the international and bilateral agenda (the most recent took place in July 2018 in Minsk at the level of deputy ministers). Heads and deputy heads of foreign ministries meet regularly (the most recent meeting was in December 2017 on the margins of the OSCE Ministerial Council). The prime ministers of the two countries meet periodically as part of the meetings of the Central European Initiative (in November 1998 and in December 2016 – in Sarajevo, in November 2003 – in Warsaw).
In December 2008, at the invitation of the Belarusian side, an official parliamentary delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina visited Belarus. In June 2017, members of the BiH Parliament took part in a session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Minsk.
The legal and contractual framework of bilateral relations is in the process of formation. Agreements on cooperation between the foreign ministries, on visa-free travel on diplomatic and official passports, on road transport, on the promotion and protection of investments and a trade agreement have been signed and entered into force.
In 2020, the first Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Belarus was opened in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Pale). The Honorary Consul – Nedeljko Elek.
