Bilateral relations
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Croatia were established on September 25, 1992.
Since April 2009 the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Russian Federation has been accredited to the Republic of Belarus. The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Hungary has been accredited to the Republic of Croatia since April 2019.
The political dialogue between Belarus and Croatia takes place in the format of regular meetings between the leadership of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The most recent meeting of the two ministers took place on September 25, 2019 during the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Consultations are held between the foreign ministries of the two countries on topical issues on the international agenda, as well as on bilateral issues (the most recent took place in March 2019 in Minsk at the level of deputy ministers).
In November 1998, the prime ministers of the two countries met on the sidelines of the Central European Initiative Summit of Heads of Government.
On October 8, 2019, former Croatian President Stjepan Mesić participated as a high-level speaker in an expert conference on the Minsk Dialogue conference. S. Mesić met with the head of the Belarusian state.
The contractual and legal framework of the bilateral relations is in the process of formation. Agreements on facilitation and mutual protection of investments, on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion, on international automobile transportation, on cooperation in the field of tourism, and on trade and economic cooperation have been signed and entered into force. A number of drafts of bilateral agreements are under negotiation.
As part of the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue, the parliamentary delegation of Belarus headed by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly met with the delegation of Croatia, headed by the head of the parliamentary group on relations with Belarus, in Vienna during the OSCE PA winter session on February 21, 2013.
